...well actually in January, but I couldn't believe how fast the weeds and bind weed grew over the summer and dwarfed everything that I tried to grow.
I thought that if I blitz the whole 5 rods with Root Out and 'start afresh' then it would make my life easier in the coming months/years. Advice will be very well received!

Mulberry, I do not think Root Out is the right item.
Is it Glyphosate based, I do not think so?
What you need is a Glyphosate weedkiller, e.g Roundup or Tumbleweed and the DIY warehouse branded stuff is just as good. When you have some follow the instructions on the tin and be patient, with the weather cooling it will work, but slower than high summer.
