Good to hear the council nonsense has been sorted Westi! I know what you mean about it being nice having a chance to look round the rest of the plots, sometimes it’s good to have something to make us have a bit of a break isn’t it!
Yes, I felt quite sad (and a tad guilty) about the Bramley, as I had put it in probably about 25 years ago but it had always been attacked by codling moths (despite having one of those traps), as well as aphids every year. But when we saw the poor root system we realised it was never going to be a healthy tree and probably wouldn’t have survived at all in the wild.
And it’s now raining properly here now so I’m one happy bunny.

I hope that you all have had this very welcome rain, it started here around 3.30pm but stopped at 8.00pm. Managed to mow most of the lawn before the rain started. I'm nursing a sore thigh this evening, I am looking after my eldest son's collie that does not get on with mine. They decided to quarrel and on seperating them I received a nasty bite to the back of my thigh! I do not think rain is forecast here to-morrow but is forecast for places further north.

Well we didn’t get all the rain that we were predicted…..only had about 20 minutes of steady rain, despite very black clouds keep drifting over! Hopefully we will get some more over the coming week!
Glad you got everything sorted out, Westi!
Hope the dog bite soon heals up Barney!
Lovely to see you back on the forum, Adrienne!
Did you get much rain, Clive?
Kind Regards, Old Herbaceous.

Well how disappointing for you OH, with that small amount of rain you must have got. Now, am I remembering correctly - another time, possibly last year, when we were all desperate for some rain and many of us were getting it but it kept missing your area?
I was luckier here and managed to collect a fair amount in various buckets etc that I’ll keep in a container for when the newish blueberry, azalea and rhododendron need it.

It must have started raining about 9pm last night....was coming down fairly heavy when I last looked out before bed.

5mm in the gauge this morning, it didn't seem to come as much as the forecast and radar seemed to suggest it might. Enough though to do a bit of good..with ref the jobs I got done yesterday.

Rain from 10:30 to 5:00 accumulated 12.7mm. Soil very good to work with for the cut and dried flower planting out I've been doing this morning. Keeps going dark but not added any more yet.

My friend who keeps weather records, said we had 1.5 mm, so i’m not surprised everything was dry again, by 10 am!
Do you know if there is a Spitfire, flying out of Cranfield airstrip, today Clive?
It keeps coming towards the allotments, then turning back again….it has like a chequered pattern on the underwings…..

'Fly a Spitfire'...is very much the in thing. At one time a two seat Spitfire was a poor relation....not any more,..it's keen business...

Seems no mention of seeing carefully tended freshly planted rows of runner beans..... ;) They had a bonus ;) ..they could have sold it ...as if flying over the Garden of England :)

I knew you would have the necessary information Clive, so thank you!
And of course, you are right about the latter….🙂

Off to the plot tomorrow, waved goodbye to the visitors!
Although we got rain I expect there will be no evidence of it when I go down as temps gone up again, but dropping considerably after tomorrow for about a week. I hope some more of the plants have decided to grow now with proper rain but they will have to do with a hose water tomorrow regardless. Hopefully enough rain that I won't need a pick axe to prep the last beds!

I got the brassica cage up and cabbages, broccoli planted out, the Kale are still to small. They look OK, as we've had a bit of rain. Other seedlings are struggling to recover form the dry, sunny, windy weather we've had, they are sulking with a few scorched leaves.

Having eaten my way through the leeks in the back garden...and I'm really pleased that I set the second planting of them....I was without the veg element of tea this evening... Then I remembered the little patch of 'Markery', Chenopodium, that I rescued and planted up in a block in the old garden pond location. There was just enough leaves to snip into the colander to make me a useful portion :)

Still no signs of any of the toms thinking of showing. I find it hard to understand why it is all of them, they are mixed batches & in new compost. Today I had a mooch around in the pots to check the seeds had not been nicked by mice, not easy trying to find a tom seed in a pot but I did find most. I scooped out the compost & tried another compost I had opened a couple of weeks ago so will see.
On the positive though some of the no show brassica's have popped up, only a few gaps now. Got the leek seedlings & dwarf beans in & I was able to start prepping the beds I cleared. I was able to dig the soil but took some raking to make it nice with no clods. Only about a 1/2 dozen other beds to make ready but more rain expected which will help greatly.
