Can frogs scream?

I had my back door open yesterday evening, and heard a noise a bit like a cross between a really loud squeak and a scream, several times.

My cat was sitting looking very interested in a clump of comfrey, and as I approched a frog leapt out and headed off. I distracted the cat away, but I've never heard frogs make that noise before! I know its supposed to be a bit of a myth, but now I've heard it, maybe not! Anyone else heard anything like this?!

Yes and it's truly awful, especially in the middle of the night. You wouldn't think something that small could make such an awful noise but at least they just seem to do it when cornered and in danger. :?

Our cat caught one and it screamed - we wondered what on earth was happening, but at least the cat dropped it pretty quick - think he was a bit shocked!!
Smiling is infectious....

The one and only time I've really seen Jim, my husband, lose his cool was, when walking home from the pub, aged about 20, (him, not the pub) he stood on a frog and it screamed. Not as loud as him, though.
Still get a fit of the giggles just remembering it :!:

Yes we`ve also had screaming frogs tho` worse is in winter when you find them standing, one front leg raised desicated and perfectly preserved between the back of the sofa next to the radiator!
Talking of cats we had THE NIGHT OF THE LONG WORMS!You`d be sitting watching the t.v. and the carpet pattern would move,it took a little time to realise that DH and I were seeing the same,so not dodgy wine but cat.Hard to be impressed with mass worm hunting!

I unfortunately don't see frogs very often so can't report but they do croak so every chance they will make other noises related to the situation they are in.

I have heard strange noises from on or around the plot that aren't attributable to any of the main visitors, mainly from the hedge row at the back, the most dramatic was a snuffle type noise & some crunching heavy foot steps. I don't know how I knew it was not good, but it was mainly just the wrong noise so I moved back from the hedge. Then in the wee cut back I made in the hedgerow so I could watch the trains there was a Black Panther; I kid you not, totally for real! It just stopped & stared at me for a bit & then moved on. I waited until I could not hear it's foot fall then was out of there!

As it turns out from my research these are seen quite regularly in our area as folk in the New Forrest & surrounds just let their private collections out rather than surrender to zoos when they disallowed keeping these animals as pets as despite their wealth they were not providing the correct stimulation or large areas for these animals. Their range is now quite large as they have bred, so very North Dorset, South Dorset & the New Forrest, but no people have ever been attacked..but no doubt we don't taste as good as the deer & wild pigs available.
