Hi all!
Can anyone clear up the confusion I have regarding white fly? Due to the abundance this year & subsequent damage I looked up whether they can overwinter in the soil as I want to end this generation now not allow it to get a head start next year. The usual conflicting information but a lot saying they can overwinter. Anyone know if this is the case & if so how you could remove them from the soil? Just thinking they are so tiny if they laid eggs or whatever to reproduce you'd have no chance finding them.

I don’t know the answer to that, Westi….I have never heard of them overwintering in the ground though.
Something I do know and have never seen before is, we have whitefly flying around everywhere here at the moment, gardens, lanes and of course, over the allotments!

Basically it is the adults that over winter in greenhouses, they don't survive outside usually, the eggs are laid on leaves and hatch, they don't over winter. Having said all of that, a couple of years ago I tried over wintering a couple of Chillies in my frost free conservatory and the blighters would not go away, ended up binning the plants as my usual washing up liquid method I mentioned in one of my videos didn't seem to have the same effect.

That is fine then as all the white fly issues are outside. Mind with the wind & thunder storms we have had for the last couple of days the little blighters should have been blown several miles away or drowned! (I know too easy)! At least the temp is dropping which will help.
