Thank you one and all for the greetings, it means a lot the older you get and many of your long-time friends die off. I've had to give up my great love of fishing - incredibly I mentioned it was my birthday on the website of a certain famous carp lake that I fished over 60 years ago and I've had 66 birthday greetings from those fishing it today!

That's a nice gesture JohnN. Yes, It's dispiriting to see one's friends disappear as one grows older. so maintaining current contacts, however they're formed, becomes ever more important. I'm not sure being the last man standing is of any particular benefit but I guess we all have to take what life decides to throw at us !.

Would that be Redmire, somewhere I never got to fish, living in Scotland I just fly fish for silver tourists and wild brown trout these days.

Hi, TB: The only place I fished in Scotland was the Tay, at Birnam, with the writer Bill Currie. Never had a fresh run salmon, but several kelts. My best trout was a Rainbow of 8lb 10oz, from the beautiful Duncton lakes in West Sussex.
