Is it just me and my settings? I am unable to see the avatars that other people have added to their details on the left of the topics.

In the new tools & machinery section I can see the 2 images that Clive has posted but not his avatar, I just get the white box with a red cross??

Any advice?

possibly no one has added them. I haven't and do not find them at all appealing and for those not on broadband they could slow the loading of the page

Hello Belinda,

I tried to add an avatar just out of curiosity following my efforts in posting the photo of Charlie and the Rhubarb Factory.

I have used similar forums to this re other hobbies.
One being the Flypast Magazine forum on which folk have all sorts of all singing all dancing avatars and seem to make a separate hobby out of changing and animating them.!!..
I have never hankered after such gimmicks and not previously bothered to investigate how they work but tried to add one on this forum...but I summise it may not be enabled.??

Think I will go and remove the one that isn't here on my profile.!!..

All the best,
Clive.

I'll have a look at the avatar problem - as you may also have noticed we've gone (briefly) grey again!!

Normal colours will be restored as soon as possible.

Best

Oh fixed it!

OK try uploading your avatar now!

Actually, I might make the avatar size a bit larger to allow bigger images. There is a size limit on avitars - mainly to keep the forum running quick & smooth should everyone decide to have one.

Best,

I tried to add an avator from the gallery - but there weren't any in it? Just showed a blank space.

Piglet will sort you out. He's the avatar king. I think it's something to do with where the avatar is saved.

David, I'm not very good with this and had trouble myself which Mr PH sorted out for me. His explanation was that my picture for my avatar was stored on my computer, which used to work, but the site has been upgraded somehow and avatar pictures now have to be hosted elsewhere, such as photobucket I presume. If you have a look at the thread on photos, this tells you what to do. I hope this helps.
