There's been much in the press recently about knife crime.

"Basically, it is illegal to carry a knife in public without good reason, unless it has a folding blade with a cutting edge 3 inches long or less. https://www.gov.uk/buying-carrying-knives"

Just wondered if anyone had run into problems using knives on the allotment, or even on the way to the allotment? We know of at least one reader who has and had his knife confiscated.

Afternoon Tony, I have never been in trouble for it, but i do keep a foldable lock knife in my working trousers. This gets used many times daily while I'm at work, gardening, or over the allotments. I have a lock knife, as they are a lot safer for use, as the blade won't close up if you are cutting a hand full of stems in a tight situation. So i don't think there is any legal reason why I'm not allowed to, as it's for work.
Kind Regards, Old Herbaceous.

I have 2 lockable knives down the plot I very often carry a knife with a seven inch blade when I'm going sea fishing, this is a discussion we have had at our fishing club the consensus was that you had to be able to prove why you are carrying a dangerous weapon in my case it is in a fishing tackle box usually with rods and reels ,the problem is when I carry the same knife to the boat were all my tackle is stored , I think if your knives are in a shed which has other gardening tools in it you will not have a problem

Same as Robo, filleting knife when fishing, don't have an allotment so that won't apply. I do have a bushcraft knife, but don't take it out now, just use it in the garden.
Been gardening for over 65 years and still learning.

I've got a 'legal' knife in my bag, it's tiny but invaluable for all sorts of jobs at lottie & at home - not sure I really need it at work but my bag is where it lives so I can always find it! Anyway the police would loose interest before they even found it in my bag - all the other stuff is essential I assure you! :)

i now carry a folding knife with replacable stanley type blades, lives permenantly in a trouser pocket.

the machette hangs down the back of the passenger seat in the van... out of sight but reachable from the drivers seat.

last time brother in law borrowed my 4x4 he removed the hand axe from the drivers door pocket and hid it under the rear seat ....

When I was attending Tai Chi classes a few years ago I used to have a special sword (in a scabbard) locked in the boot - as I was learning a Sword Form at the time. Thank goodness I was never stopped. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1priHbQxP8
