Chickens have got the season right, all very tatty in middle of moult at the moment. I keep telling them to feather up before the cold stuff comes!
Rooks have got it right, fly out the woods in their hundreds to feast on bugs in the fields.
Little owls have kicked out the offspring and we're back down to two in the oak tree.
And the local council contractors decided to resurface our lane the night before torrential rain, we now have black slush at the bottom of the drive and himself's white pick-up has a grey tide mark from the splatter. Have they got the season right?

The warm weather has allowed weeds to regrow or germinate. I'm trying to get them out, hoping it will make life better next year.
(Deep down, I doubt it will but when I see a weed I do want to get rid of it - and after all, it's not doing any harm).

Im over in spain, most of the birds are doing their mating dances, the weeds are going beswick I sprayed all the gravel when I was last over adout a month ago since then it has been wet then sunny every thing thinks its spring ive sprayed again yesterday , nice and sunny today the solar panels gave the batteries a good boost see what tomorrow brings

Autumn is well and truly with us, but we have had a good run of weather.
It's just a matter of trying to catch up now, and put everything to bed for the winter, then it's on to all my hedge cutting duties....
I'm sure there will still be some nice bright days in between the gloomy ones, though.

What torrential rain and winds, MW? We have had absolutely fabulous weather the last few days: light rain during the night and almost wall-to-wall sunshine every day with very little wind. I have been working on the allotment wearing just a T-shirt (as well as trousers etc. of course!).

Torrential rain this morning followed by more this afternoon, the partly resurfaced road outside our house has broken up into a black slurry with huge potholes all over the place and no road gangs to be seen for days. Probably because it's raining...

Our allotments have had an infestation of caterpillars, they have striped the cabbages virtually overnight.

Some years ago I took my small niece to the allotment for the afternoon.
She soon came rushing up to me asking for a tub in which to put her collection of caterpillars. By the time we left she must have got a couple of hundred in that tub. I was delighted!
Her dad collected her and I mentioned she had a caterpillar collection. He took little notice.
The following day my hysterical sister was on the phone as her entire kitchen was overrun with caterpillars. They were on everything she touched, she kept getting squashed caterpillar on her hands.
They were also dropping off the ceiling on to her and into the pans on the Aga.
She spent hours trying to collect them all up and then bought them a cabbage before releasing them in the nearby churchyard!
However, some had evaded the hunt, dried out and then exploded in greenish powder when touched some time later. All over the clean white washing was one that I recall.
Some turned into a chrysalis and she didn't have the heart to move them.
Never did find out what they hatched into

Could have been moths, we get lots of Cinnabars and other little things on the lottie.
Found an Elephant Hawk Moth caterpillar last year, it was huge!

We had the village Remembrance Service at the Church this morning, this service has been taken by someone i work for, for many years now, and it was the last one he is going to do, so quite a moving service it was to.
Anyway, i thought for something a little different, i would wear a couple of real field poppies backed by a fern leaf....well it caused quite a stir....there were comments from, trust you to always go one better, to, i don't believe they are real. But i don't really believe that this hasn't been done before, so has anyone seen this done before?
One more thing, i wish Clive would put one of his lovely posts on, as i do miss them.....but i do know he is always terribly busy.

Remembrance Day Services always reminds me how lucky we are that we can live in comparative peace in our country thanks to all those that served to defend our freedom. Wearing real poppies is a new one for me Oldherbaceous, I'm sure that you looked very smart.
