sooty mould on runner beans

Can't identify that mould? Got a great tip for keeping slugs at bay? Suggestions for organic weed control? Post them here...

The last two years we have suffered with black
mould on runner bean leaves. Before we plant out
our beans this year can any one give us any help,
as we do not wish to lose our crop again.
Thanks Averil.

Sooty mould usually grows after an infestation of aphids. They drop honeydew all over the plants and the mould then develops on that. You need to keep an eye on the shoot tips for aphids and control them to control the mould.

Hope that helps.
