What is this please?

Can't identify that mould? Got a great tip for keeping slugs at bay? Suggestions for organic weed control? Post them here...

What is this please?

Postby Westi » Thu Jun 17, 2021 9:26 pm

This has popped up in the back garden & not sure what it is? I bought some mixed perennials so thought part of that batch but thanks to critters the tags have disappeared. It was tiny last year but morphed into a monster but I think I've seen something similar growing on the odd verge along the lanes.

It looks tatty as the winter leaves are dying & being replaced, but the flowers are developing. The leaves look like they should be fluffy & soft but they are not in the slightest fluffy. The flowers started a bit thistle like but now a bit more daisy or something.

Appreciate your wisdom in advance as usual! X

Leafsnap plant identifying phone app plumps for Tanacetum Vulgare or Tansy as first choice.
Second choice it goes for Jacobaea Maritima or Silver Ragwort.
Third and we are into Yarrow's Achillea Filipendulina non-native though.

what you have there is Ragwort, it is a British native but is considered a noxious weed. if you have one now, and you let it seed, there will be lots next year..... Here is a link to explain a bit more about it.
