Does weedkiller really kill twitch?

We had twitch in our old garden. I ended up carefully digging out every trace when it showed and drying it. Makes a nice bright hot fire. Having retired, I have just taken on an allotment and I see it too has twitch close to the track that runs alongside my piece of land. I've bought an incinerator to burn the stuff and am in the process of planting potatoes so that I will have to move the soil and will keep digging out the twitch.
