Do pine needles stop slugs?

Can't identify that mould? Got a great tip for keeping slugs at bay? Suggestions for organic weed control? Post them here...

Hi, some time ago I remember someone saying that putting pine needles around the base of plants can stop slugs? Has anyone tried this and does it work? I kept all of the pine needles from our Christmas tree just in case.

Many thanks

Can,t answer that one but might they risk making the soil beneath them a little too acid ?

Good point. My pine needles are a few months old so the acidity levels Should have dropped a bit. I wish I could remember where I heard this from. Maybe I should experiment on a sacrificial lettuce or two.
