caterpillars on tomatoes

Can't identify that mould? Got a great tip for keeping slugs at bay? Suggestions for organic weed control? Post them here...

A friend in Brittany has had her tomato plants (tomatoes AND leaves!) eaten by lots of grey caterpillars without any other markings. Can anybody suggest what it could be? Checking on the internet, her description does not fit either tomato moth or tomato hornworm.

I couldn't begin to make a guess Monika. in all the years I've been growing tomatoes I don,t think I've ever seen a caterpillar on my tomato plants.
