I am glad to hear cook did you proud

Dear Elle, i started the runner beans off in the greehouse at the begining of April, they were then planted out at the beggining of May under glass cloches.

They are a dwarf variety, by the way.

Looks as if it is going to be good berry picking weather today, well i'm hoping it is.

And good for picking more runner beans too, thought i would just add this.

I am content with my broad beans right now, I am sure it will be quite a while before my runners get 'beaning'...

Dear Elle, far from it, i picked about 10lbs of Runner Beans this morning.
They are not quite as long as a normal Runner Bean, but just as tasty.

And as for Old Codger, his vegtable selling has gone international, he has got fruit going to Corsica next week.

10 lbs! Can I assume you have frozen some? What variety have you grown that they are not as long as normal ones or did you just pick them small?

Raspberries, four times fifteen foot rows.

Family Raspberry Fatigue Syndrome.

I had not,for various reasons,visited my plot in over a week and for the first time in years I contemplated using pesticides to rid my Broad Beans of Blackfly but didn't because of the Ladybirds and Hoverflies also present so I pinched out the tips of the plants hoping that this will suffice.

Evening Elle, the variety is Hestia.
The beans always seem to be small for the first few pickings, but then they seem to get a little longer, but still not as long as the tall varieties.

The picked beans, graced various peoples Sunday dinner plates.


Peter, you haven't started to get a bit of a pink tinge, have you?

Snooky, if you can squish some of the remaining blackfly, the ladybirds and other helpers should get on top of things for you.

I had a good squish today

I decided last night that whatever the weather the fleece had to come off my Runner Beans. I've just gone along the row and trained each one up its correct cane (why do they always prefer the next one?) and come in to warm my hands on a cup of coffee. Doubt they'll do much in these temperatures; as for the 20 Cobra at one end of the row, even less chance.

Not exactly flaming June is it? Some of my courgettes are doing OK and other varieties are sulking and waiting for the warm weather. I'll have to take note of the more resilient ones.

One great thing this week, my first tomatoes are ready - Kennilworth King George - what a treat after shop bought ones.

Rained all night here, and very dark this morning, still.
