Now i really have tempted fate, as i have just planted out fifty Runner Bean plants. Now i certainly don't recommend this, but i do plant some early each year, sometimes it pays off, other years it doesn't.
Kind Regards, Old Herbaceous.

How on earth are you going to eat the produce from 50 runners?

I always seem to get a lot more friends visiting when the beans are ready to start cropping, funny that.
I shall be sowing another 100 anytime now.

OH and his runner beans. Rather suspect he is supplying Harrods.
Planted mine yesterday, I didn't harden them off either, I may have to fleece them

Funny you should say that Shallot Man, as there is a missed call on the phone with a number i don't know, suppose that will have been Harrods trying to secure an order.

I shall sow mine tomorrow in pots in the greenhouse to plant out in about 3 weeks time. It's not the frost I worry about so much but the blasted SW wind that cuts across our allotments in early May and shreds the bean plants to ribbons.

Mine are enjoying the greenhouse too much & getting tall so I may have to risk it! Fortunately have saved a lot of bottles so each will get an individual cloche & I always direct sow a bit later as well. In fact have loads of stuff to plant so hope showers hold off a bit!

It turned out to be a rather pleasant day in the end, and i even managed to get over an acre of lawns cut this afternoon. I wonder if we will be so lucky tomorrow....

I used to love seeing the first hatch of the year, when i used to do a little farm work, when i was a lad.
There was a brood of wild ducklings where i work on a wednesday, but sadly the lady said she hasn't seen them since...i hope nothing has killed them all.

I thought i could save a couple of minutes by not taking my boots off when i wanted something in the house. Cook wasn't about, so i tip-toed down to the east wing, but when i turned round, the dirt had fallen out of the treads of my boots.....And you can guess who suddenley appeared as i was just starting to pick it up... yes cook.
She did smile though.
