Hi All,
I haven't been on the forum for ages, and my hasn't it changed. Glad to see a few familiar names though.

I'm studying Landscape Architecture, and am writting a report on why Planners and developers should not see allotments as potential building plots. One argument against them doing so is the cost and time taken up in protests, the bad publicity and the fact they might be beaten.

I'd therefore be very interested to hear from anyone who has had to fight for their plot, and especially if you won.

Di, dig in the archive, there was at least one thread where someone fought and won last year.

There's been an article recently in one of the Gardening Magazines about an urban area winning against planners to protect their allotments. The Council eventually encompassed the allotments in the design and there was a photo of a modern appartment block with said allotments. I think it was in Ireland, but I can't be sure. If you can't find any reference to it - come back to me and I'll dig (pun intended) around for it.

Hi Tigger,
I think the article you are referring to was in Edwin Oxlades slot only a couple of months ago
TKG Magazine.

Thanks for the tips, I have that KGM but haven't had time to read it (der) so I'll go and find that article.

In serious risk of losing my allotment myself if I don't get faster at studying and find some more time for gardening. Doesn't bear thinking about :(

all the best

You might also try the link from Steve Partridge about his allotment and the corresponding links to others. Makes good reading - if a bit depressing at times (chickens).

OH, given the syntax of her posting, I suspect that perhaps the young lady had been browsing the fourum, read your signature, mistook this forum for a somewhat different forum and responded in kind.
:P
