Torrential rain and thunderstorms here this week - it's all or nothing isn't it? It's been really windy too.

On Monday I replaced a broken (by cows) fencepost. A meter down the clay was virtually dry. Yesterday I replaced a post holding up raspberry canes (broken by wind). A metre down the ground was damp.

We have had torrential rain, only broken for the Bee Inspector who visited yesterday and had a 1 hour dry spell.. I was impressed: the bees were very well behaved... but then most continue flying depite the rain..

(None of your nancy soft Southern bees here you know:-)

We have had 32mm of rain now since Sunday which is great, a bit more to come tomorrow, apparently, though the sun has been shining all afternoon.

More pea and broad bean picking tomorrow and then the podding and freezing - is there an easy way to pod broad beans?

It has rained here on the following days in July: 1, 2, 4, 7, 9. 10, 12, 13, 14, 16, 17, 18 and 19 (today). And I think that's probably good compared to Scotland.

Dear Alan, you appeared to have had a prolonged drought between 4 and 7. :)

And here in sunny Milton Bryan, have only had a couple of showers in the last month.
Kind Regards, Old Herbaceous.

Dear OH

I have already booked our holiday in tropical Milton Bryan - our ark is already complete and moored nearby - available for rent at 200 shekels a week

It's been raining off and on here but not enough to make any difference to, say, the potatoes or cabbages, just the surface is wet. And our Nature Reserve pond is still well below normal.

BUT, stuff is certainly growing, including the weeds, and there is more rain to come, they say.
