Simple answer is, less handling.

Move one round bale for feed drop it upright into a round galvanised feeder cage after slicing the black plastic and/or retaining plastic net.
Move one round bale for bedding, drop it in a rollable position after slicing the netting in midair and unroll it.

Big block ones same principle one tractor or telehandler movement.

Plus stock farms use mixers, bit like the old side discharge with revolving flails manure spreader, but much more civilised, with a discharge chute. Telehandler with shear-grab getxs silage, swaps to fork grab & gets straw, then swaps to a bucket for crushed grains, beet, soya or powdered supplements. All gets cur and mixed until it looks like week old lawn mowings and then tracyor yows it off to discharge along the feeding rails.

How many little bales to move for equivalence of one biggie?
