I've grown 2 varieties of this beautiful vegetable, treviso and verona. Treviso is the longer pointed one, but apparently verona holds better through cold winter. To be honest, I'd probably grow it anyway as it's just so beautiful, but I can't wait for the heads to plump up. My griddle will be good and hot waiting for them!

I'm not sure what variety mine is but they are round & fairly tight. I find the outer leaves rot so these have to be peeled off throughout the autumn & winter so you just end up with the small centre, which is paler & nowhere as bitter as the outer leaves so great for a contrast bite in salad, but earlier ones taken are great griddled. I like them griddled with a drizzle of Caesar dressing & parmesan flakes, slightly bitter & earthy.
