....but I did anyway!

Back in April I was clearing up and had some shooting potatoes from a small bag that had got lost at the back of the cupboard. They were Alexandra salad potatoes from Lidl. So I shoved them into a couple of small potato bags, covered them with compost and let them do their thing. I was bored with waiting and wanted some spuds to go with dinner so I tipped them out. I got a healthy enough crop for my impatience, enough for 3 people, but my word the flavour! They were gorgeous. All rich and buttery. I don't know if that variety is available as seed potatoes but I'd certainly buy them if they were. Delicious.

Bad girl.... :)

I must admit, that's not a variety I can say i've seen advertised before....

Maybe that is a variety we will all look out for! We have grown Charlotte for our salad potatoes for many years.

Sounds like a good one to try. It is good they put the varieties on the packets so if we do experiment with one we like we have a bit of a head start trying to find a supplier - except maybe for Alexandra!

It was one of their super delicious range. I can't remember what Lidl call it, it's Specially Selected in Aldi. I like Charlotte spuds too, but these were amazing. Admittedly, they'd only been out of their grow bags for under an hour, but they were sooooo good. If I see them in the supermarket again at the right time of year, I will do the same again. I think the closest I've come in flavour otherwise are Vivaldi.
