The Embden goslings are pipping and hatching since yesterday afternoon.
This in the first one out in the brooder a few hours after hatching - he's a male and already named Kaiser!

So far we seem to have one male and three females and three eggs still to hatch. Grandson's project in his new incubator. He's done a sterling job!

Sadly, the females have not survived, so poor lad will grow up alone.

We have already arranged to get another set from a friend down the peninsula and will be starting them in the second incubator as soon as the duck eggs, which are hatching in the next couple of days, are out of there. We shall overcome!

Well the ducklings have hatched and are now in the brooder with Kaiser, the lonely gosling.

"I told them I was lonely" says Kaiser "so they go and give me eighteen blooming ducklings!"

Not quite a case of "hen pecked" then but a delightful early Easter photo all the same!

I have never considered that, at this stage, only size distinguishes the gosling from the ducklings only hatched a few days apart.
