I didn't want to mention that, Clive ...but did make me feel better that others have a few weeds too...

A couple of months ago I pointed to half of one of my raised beds and asked my grandson to turn it over why I cleaned the chicken house ,when I came to look he had turned the wrong half over he had done my asparagus bed over ever since I’ve been watching it closely ,since the rains stopped six weeks ago the soil has become bone dry especially the raised beds ,today I noticed around five spears sticking up so all is not lost I think tomorrow will see that bed getting a watering

Monika, I know. three months of nearly incessant rain, plus a few devastating storms then five weeks of nothing at all.
As a gardener with a plot, I can cope but if I was trying to cover hundreds (or even just tens) of acres and as a business, I wouldn't have a chance.

Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.

Been working at the big house this morning and gosh the ground is dry...had a real job getting the wigwams of hazel sticks in the ground, even after digging...

Here's the Early Onward now with wire and canes in place and the row of Radeo coming through. Also, the restraining posts in place ready to run a string along/around the Bunyards Exhibition broad beans...

Lovely pictures, Clive, and not a weed in sight.
Kind Regards, Old Herbaceous.

I limed the brassica bed today and watered it in. The brassica seedlings should be ready to go into ground in a week or ten days, covered by a very tall netting tunnel to keep off any marauding birds or insects. I don't want a repeat of last year when our lovely kale, flower sprouts and kohlrabi fell prey to all the little beasties.

Thank you, Stephen,
Here's a photo, of where the broad beans are now, taken when I was trying to get it all back from the wilderness 29 Dec 2019.
