This year has been a really good year for the second sowing, of a lot of plants that I do.....runner beans, French beans, carrots, beetroot, courgettes marrows and lots of the salad stuff. They are just starting to crop at full throttle and everything looks so healthy....It's taking a bit of watering where we have had no rain for weeks but, it's going to pay off this year.
Looks quite funny with my allotments full of fresh veg, while most of the others hae been virtually cleared of everything....
Kind Regards, Old Herbaceous.

I'm anxious to start tackling autumn chores like dismantling tomato stakes and bean poles on my more energetic days but the darned things keep cropping in this sunshine so I keep being frustrated. I'm one of those "tight" gardeners who loathes ripping up plants while they still have some life in them.

This reminds me of the famous "carpet gardens" on the seafront in Eastbourne. Around this time of year the municipal gardeners will obviously have their autumn planting schedule and will descend and rip out all the still magnificently flowering geraniums or whatever and substitute with winter bedding. The promenade is piled high with discarded heaps of geraniums etc and it's interesting to see large members of the public helping themselves to overwinter them or to take cuttings which is fine because they're only destined for a municiple compost heap somewhere.

Wow, everything looks really great! The roosters are very clean, and a good size too.

How many mouths are you feeding??

That all looks very impressive OH and unusual to see everything looking so flourishing. Normally at this time of year foiliage is starting to look very yellow and weary. However, the soil does look very dry which I guess is typical of the drought we're having in this part of the world this summer.
Lovely looking potatoes too !

The warming thing is though, Primrose, I know they will be back again next year... bet they were panicking when I was laid up earlier this year. :)

Well done OH.
My spuds were all lifted in August and are in bags in the garage.
So much is still growing well but I'll put in some winter leafy stuff soon (mustards etc).

What amazing late crops OH. I haven't got much left in the ground apart from Winter crops. Envy your runner bean flowers, ours have stopped flowering so won't be picking for much longer. Cut flowers like dahlias and chrysants are doing well though.

I hope it is still Summer, only started pruning my apple trees yesterday.

What a great late summer it is turning out to be! The last few days we have still had lots of painted ladies, also peacock, small tortoiseshell, comma, red admiral, small copper, speckled wood and, alas, small white butterflies, all feeding on red valerian, hemp agrimony and the last remnants of buddleia.
Mixed flocks of tits are working through the trees with the bug-ridden bird cherries particularly favourites!
The greenhouse is washed and tidied after clearing the last tomatoes and sweet and chilli peppers. Some of the spring bulbs are planted and the green manure sown on the empty vegetable beds outside.
Must be getting towards autumn .....
