Tree ID please

We went for a wander around the local landowners estate on Sunday - and I spotted this rather attractive shrub/tree with dangly bits. Now I can't seem to find it in any of our books and wondered if anyone here is a tree expert (or has a better book). Plantsnap wasn't much help either or any of the tree apps I've been looking on.

Presumably, the 'dangly bits', are buds, Diane? Might it be easier to identify once they are open?

Dear Diane,
I am pretty sure that this is a Styrax japonicus aka the Japanese snowball tree. Rather handsome shrub/small tree; widely available in several cultivars. It took all evening for the name to pop into the old noggin.
Regards Sally Wright.

That's fantastic, Sally. Thank you. It does look exactly like a Styrax. Much appreciated.

I agree. I had even contacted the head forester in charge and he didn't know what it was.
