It Would have been pa’snips birthday this Saturday the 13th, hes still taking the pee! I still havent managed to fill his “new bed” however ive got 2 early rows of spuds in, planted 2 couple of roses next to his shed, much to his disgust as he “wasnt having roses on his plot” well, its my plot now so he will be having them, lol, ive also planted a cherry tree, sown some carrots and pa’s parsnips too

Looks like you've been busy and good to see that the next generation is getting stuck in. I always think growing things such a lovely activity for children as it's full of learning and anticipation.

They may go through a stage as teenagers when they totally migrate away to pop music and wanting to be with their friends but as soon as they settle down with a home of their own the interest often revives itself. It,s surprising how many of today's older gardeners probably started off helping their parents or their grandparents and the memories usually serve as a good base for building on.

Poddington I'm sure you will keep the plot to your dad's plans ,but at the same time you have to put your own stamp on it

Gardening is very good for the soul, I still talk to my Dad when I'm in the garden and he passed 30 years ago, it's a place we had in common more than anywhere else.

I echo that Tigwr. I,ve lost count of the times when a spell out gardening has helped lift my mod when going through a difficult time. Should form part of any NHS prescription!

We all need to plant flowers to encourage pollinators, I didn't use to plant many flowers, now I am growing lots of Britains native wild ones and we do have native Roses.
