As I was approaching the gate to the allotments, there were a couple of people looking over it at the plots.
I said hello and it turned out that they had just been offered a plot.
I showed them round and chatted inconsequentially to the attractive Italian young woman who will be the plot-holder. When I suggested a but of clearing was necessary (she didn't know which plot she would get but all those available are overgrown), she replied that she was brought up on a farm, which I took as meaning she is happy and not afraid to work hard!

The halo is only on loan for a short period!

Good for you, Stephen! The "attractive Italian young woman" will remember you for the rest of her life and she and partner will no doubt become useful allotment neighbours of yours.

At last your opportunity to learn how to grow the infamous Panorama Spaghetti Tree may not be far away.

We'll expect Stephen to post using his newly learnt Italian In future. At least he won't have to learn how to translate Cavalo Nero !!!

phrases needed: un'altra birra per favore (or earlier in the day it might be una espresso dopio per favore)
this is useful too: il mio amico lo fara
and of course: sei molto carino

So now the under-gardener is on alert, may be she will be with me more often! #cunning plan

I bet they were both pleased to get a warm welcome, as it must be a daunting task to some, taking on an allotment.
Kind Regards, Old Herbaceous.

Never mind being daunting taking one on, they will soon learn its daunting maintaining one at times. But oh so satisfying

I don't like to brag BUT... good new year deed done!

Yesterday afternoon at the checkout I was behind an old lady in the queue. Her bill came to £56.83 but when she counted out all her change she only had just under £50.
I thought she was probably someone’s Nan and I’d like to think someone would have helped my Nan out.
She didn’t want me to help her but I insisted, and in no time we had all her shopping back on the shelves...
