Here I am again!

Postby alan refail » Sun Sep 23, 2018 7:33 am

So long since I have posted anything, I thought I should let those regulars who remember me have an update on how things are.
It's over three years now since I lost my wife, and although I kept a bit of growing on the go I let things get well out of hand. I know that so much of what I grew and indeed my enthusiasm were mostly for her. However last spring my son and grandson moved from Liverpool to live with me and they got things (including me!) licked into shape over the course of the next twelve months. I have cut back a lot on what I grow, but the polytunnel is still my main interest. We had the best crop of tomatoes I have ever had, as well as cucumbers, cabbage, salads, herbs and beans. All I grow outside are courgettes which they love. And what a summer it's been for those. It is good for me to have others to grow and cook for and my son is a great help around the place. He has taken over my other interest, the poultry, which had reduced to three aged drakes and four hens! We now have a couple of dozen hens and a new cockerel, and recently three white Campbell ducks, four Rouen ducks and a drake.
Things are looking up for the future and I will look forward to getting back to the forum.

The danger when people start to believe their own publicity is that they often fall off their own ego.

At least travelling under the guise of the Pa Snip Enterprise gives me an excuse for appearing to be on another planet

Nice to hear from you again Alan, I wondered where you had got to. I'm glad you've someone to share the gardening with and glad you're back in action. Gardening is wonderfully therapeutic in so many ways. Your poly tunnel sounds great and a good way to restrict what you grow. I always have too much of everything but the hens enjoy it.

Welcome back! I was thinking of you when somebody posted about our other missing Welsh (by residence) poster. Perhaps you could persuade the ever quietly lurking Johnboy to post again assuming we can have some growing threads. I'm having trouble with the polytunnel, got quite a lot of plants in modules waiting to go in but the tomatoes and squashes won't stop cropping!

Had a horrible old day today with one thing and another but, all that has been quickly forgotten with seeing you back on the forum, Alan.

Hi Alan
I have only just returned myself!
I do understand how nice it is to do things for and with other people. This is so very true for me.
