It's a Canon 1D iv a professional body, this was taken with my wildlife lens which is a 100-400mm lens as I was hoping to see some Salmon jumping the falls.

Thanks, I think I'd have to go on a photography course to get the best out of some proper kit. The point and click ones make people lazy don't they.

Beautiful and calm day today. Finished clearing the greenhouse I chickened out from in the gales and moved the chrysants in.

Interesting new Autumnwatch starting tonight on BBC2 coming from New England in USA. Good to see an alternative version of Autumn's glories

We finished up our tarting up of the pond area - sprinkled grass seed on the bare bits, planted new rockery plants here and there and added some new goldfish to the pond (which immediately vanished!). Roll on Springtime.

Got all the over wintering onion & shallot sets all in today & the garlic. I have too much garlic - I was so indecisive I couldn't choose, so I have a French, Italian & UK type in. Still harvesting outdoor tomatoes, lettuce, courgettes & peas & there are 2 cucumbers in the net tunnel, which are so close to ready I could get lucky even this late in the year.

What I have noticed is this mild weather has made my winter brassicas shoot up so they will be ready much earlier than normal as well. Not as expected but gratefully received.

Planted our garlic and shallots yesterday, all in short root trainers because the ground at home isn't ready yet, butI did that last year (for different reasons), kept the plants in the unheated greenhouse over winter and planted them in the beds outside in spring - and we had a very good crop from them, especially the garlic. The ones which I planted direct into the ground last October suffered from the dry spring and early summer.

Today was hawthorn trimming time, a rather prickly job. More to do tomorrow.

Just seen a big flock of geese going North, must be global warming.

Drizzly day down here but I still went down to lottie. I did get a bit damp but also got all the windfall & weeds from under the trees so they look nice & neat, pruned the russet & the baby pear tree & did the back strawberry bed replacing some of the older specimens there with some of this years runners I had pinned down. Still got the red apple & big pear to prune but they also need some canker work & some branches to saw off so that will be a session in itself.

I was the only one down on the site so I was a little surprised when I was leaving to find a car using the roads as a racing circuit & belting down my road. He was gone by the time I got to the gate which was open (I had shut it), but still not another soul down there. Looks like we may be in for different entertainment other than nicking stuff for a bit!

Autumn is a very time of year in my business where we do a lot of garden clearances. But it can be really frustrating, you gather up all the leaves only to find twice as many when you go back the next day

I'm hoping modern slug pellets are less safe than they are supposed to be. Yesterday I tidied up some polytunnel beds then planted them with lettuce, coriander and spinach plug plants. When I had finished I sprinkled them with the organic approved slug pellets. This morning there was evidence of a lot a "scratting" and some disturbed plants but bizarrely every last little blue pellet had disappeared. I'm hoping they didn't do the critters any good, I've fed them again tonight!

Had a wander up the Glens today looking for signs of the Red Deer, Rutt, heard a few stags roaring and got a couple of distance shots

Pity the shots of the back of his head though, the Hind to the right was watching me and I was about quarter of a mile away, amazing eye sight
