We went across to Perthshire to see the round Great Britain steam hauled train, a lovely sunny day too.

Two locomotives that were once deemed almost mission impossible to rebuild in early preservation days. The B1 had a worn out patched firebox and the Jubilee had had wheels cut through after problems in the scrapyard. As the heritage railway world skill and technology developed both became viable rebuilds/repairs, great to see.

What a beautiful powerful beast! . We,ve perhaps become so used to the wonders of more modern technology that we,ve forgotten what a feat of engineering these machines were in their heyday. We owe a gift of gratitude, I think, to all the volunteers who keep them going to remind us us of their contribution to our social history. They still have a magic about them that the modern diesel and electric engines just don’t have.
