Hi All,

How do you allocate plots. We currently allocate by date of application and send out a form for completion. We do not discriminate on the content of the form but go by the application date.

Our site is owned by the Parish Council but managed by an elected committee.

Thank you

My Town Council Allotments Officer does exactly the same, date if application and (because we have seven sites) and preference as to site expressed by the applicant.
This leads potentially to eight waiting lists, an overall one for any vacant plot and one for each site where a preference has been stated.

In practice there are three, two over popular sites and anywhere else.

tracie. We do the same on our site. Though owned by the Council, we run it.

We are located in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.

The borough has allotment sites in both towns but operated in two different ways.
Windsor has both council operated and private sites.
Windsor council sites are run by tenant committee who make the rules and deal with plot applications and allocations.
To obtain a plot in that area you either have to work or live within the boundaries of Windsor

Maidenhead also has one or two privately run sites of which I have no operational knowledge
The Council owned sites, of which there are 9 sites comprising of a total of 482 plots, are operated totally by the council with a dedicated outdoor facilities manager at the town hall.
The manager deals with applications and any day to day issues. We have no site committee and no on site manager, we just sort our own issues through the town hall manager if needs be.
Currently the borough web pages for Maidenhead states no plots being available, and a waiting list of 1 to 5 years subject to site choice. 118 people were on the waiting lists as at 23rd Jan 2018
Plot offers are made on basis of application date and where appropriate any preferred site choice.
Plot costs vary, subject to site location, from £6 to £27.50 per pole (25sq Mt) per annum.

Plots are let as full ( 10 pole = 250 sq Mt), half or quarter. The most expensive plots @£27.50 per pole have a small greenhouse and shed included. There are only 15 plots on the site which is just outside the town centre. Somewhat surprisingly at that cost the site has the biggest waiting list, currently shown on web page as 26
