Black Friday

I'm surprised the internet hasn't totally crashed over the past couple of days.

My inbox has been so inundated with Black Friday consumer "bargains?" I've spent ages deleting them all and haven't been tempted to buy a single item. In fact it has turned me more than ever against the whole wretched commercialisation of the premature run up to Christmas.

It's been a useful exercise though in reminding me how many commercial organisations I seem to have inadvertently signed up to over a period of time who have suddenly discovered I have an email address! I've been busily ploughing through them and unsubscribing myself which hopefully means in future my email box will only contain emails which are worth reading.

(Including interesting new Forum posts on here of course !)

Ditto here Primrose!

53 e-mails & only 1/2 dozen not related to Black Friday! One site even did something each hour! I don't like it much, find the name itself particularly stupid! There were no particular bargains either - obviously everything marked up for the last month or so, to reduce to normal price for this stupidity.

Same here, Alan. I find the whole thing quite distasteful. Greed, or what?

We never go shopping on days like this. Though I must say we got a bargain today which was unexpected.

Two days ago we booked a holiday cottage, through the owner, the cottage is also available through an agency at a more expensive price due to their booking fee. Today the agency, who we have used before on a different property booking, sent us an email to say we could get 10% off a booking. Which meant that if we booked the week's holiday through them we would get it more cheaply than if we booked it through the owner. My OH rang the owner, who was suprised we were in contact with the agency. OH explained that we were on their mailing list. So she very kindly agreed to offer us 10% on her price. Result two happy bunnies. And a cheaper holiday.

Also the cottage we were looking at in May in the Forest of Dean is also offering a 10% discount so again more happy bunnies. So we didnt mind Black Friday too much. :D

Our Winter Fuel Allowances arrived this week.

Black Friday offer of wine "Black Reds" that we usually buy but with free shipping, free glasses and an extra red free. Contacted the man in the office I usually deal with, got two of the bottles in the offer swapped to two I prefer (more expensive but no price change), got the glasses swapped to match the type in previous offers (we now will have a set a 6 large Dartington glasses), added some white and Prosecco and he threw in a couple of extra Bordeaux for free.

Winter Fuel sorted!

Pity we bought our seeds earlier in the week, DT Brown celebrated Brown Friday with discounts and free shipping.

He is, not sure if I believe it, Bradley Wines at Laithwaites - actually I email him and he rings back but sends emails saying he is my personal wine advisor. Not bothered about the truth, I usually seem to improve on the advertised deals.
