Overnight the KG IT wizards did a forum security update, which worked but the forum went down because the new version wasn't compatible with the theme (look & feel colours pictures & layout) we're using.

Instead of rolling back to an insecure version, they've decided to stick with it and give the site a refresh.

So the look has changed, but they'll add some branding soon to make it look like the KG you know and love.

Well I was panicking this morning as I couldn't get on to the forum and "it said it didn't recognise my email" "I didn't exist " I tried and tried and couldn't manage it. So I gave up and went to work. Now I am home and I am here :D I do exist Yippee. Well the Forum page is different. I hope it will be as easy to get around. We will see.

Hi All,

One of the IT guys here, feel free to tell us what you do and don't like and if it's possible to change we'll look into it, as it says above, we didn't intend to make any major changes but security updates dictated that we had to last min.

Many Thanks,

IT Guy

It was a bit of a surprise for sure, but if it is the price to pay for improved security then I'll put up with it. Like everything else that has to change you just get on with it & it soon becomes the norm.

I look forward to the forum member's suggestions for change though and have seen already that colours not good for those with visual issues. I will be interested to see how any pictures are downloaded & do hope slightly more pixels allowed - not that I can even try at the moment as still mastering the new Apple & having enough trouble with how the basics work without moving to the photo chapter of the idiot's guide! :D

IT Guy - thanks for keeping us online at least, must have been a real headache. (Might be some more to come though)!

Ok, I am bearing in mind that the forums are 'work in progress' but since we have been invited to do so I will make observations that support other comments to date.

The colour is harsh and garish.
It does not appear easy to start new topics from existing threads.
We were not 'kept online, for some time all I was getting when trying to enter forums was a 'error 404' message. Although exactly the same circumstances will hopefully not arise again would it not be possible to put a temporary 'Maintenance in Progress ' flash banner up via a temporary link when undertaking such work.
I assume there is considerable work still to be done as it is not immediately obvious to me how we attach pictures on this new board
The option to show recent posts on threads from 7days, 2weeks, one month old et cetera seems to have disappeared

As the adage goes, you cant please all the people all of the time heyho I don't envy you :D

The 404 was when it crashed due to disliking the theme, I. e. Colour settings etc.
They took the theme off to bring the site back up.

That sounds as if the 404 message kept coming up for only a short while.
I must have therefore struck unlikely on the times I was trying to get in this morning.

Anyway it was only a suggestion on my part, as per the invitation. Like I said, I realise its work in progress.

I posted my weedkiller thread on the train to Tottenham Hale, post Tube and drinking a coffee at the British Computer Society HQ in Covent Garden I went to see what the early birds had said and they said 404, often, so I emailed the IT Crowd.

Pa Snip : click Attachments, Add files, when you select a picture get usual place inline option. I agree, tone down the green. Will the missing avatars come back or will people have to reload them?

Thanks Geoff, I could not see any 'Attachments' button to click on.
I have just noticed it

Cheers

This is the only forum I go to please, please don't let someone bigger it up with dodgy adverts, this like close to having burglars in the house. I'm not bothered about colours though that doesn't mean they shouldn't be considered for those who do care.

Is it a pure coincidence that this"security upgrade" has coincided with mass spamming of Chinese sportswear?

I just don't understand the logic of intrusive selling, people getting peed off are not likely customers. It's the same with tele-spamming, some of these spammers go to great lengths to leave a message with you, even after you block their numbers they find an alternate dialling code or number and give another call. Again and again.
