Species separation

I hastily cleaned out the worst of the weeds and gunge from my 2 ponds a while ago before the Frogs started to be active. But this might have upset them as instead of laying in the top pond, which they usually do, they headed for the bottom one and produces masses, as usual. However, I now find that the Toads have taken over the top pond - still no Frog spawn there. Fascinating.

I'm amazed you've got anything out of hibernation yet and have actually got frogspawn already . I've cleaned out my mini pond out but there's no sign of any life in it at all. Not quite sure at what temperature frogs & toads actually come out of hibernation but my understanding is that they instinctively head back to the place they originated from.

Cleaning the pond out is my job for tomorrow - not looking forward to it but it needs to be done.
