Just had an email from my local Nursery. The above says it all.

Lol, I walked past one of the charity shops in my local town on Friday and their whole window and the front portion of the shop was dedicated to Christmas stock ...... and most of it was NEW Christmas stock at that
Silly me for thinking 'Back to School', Harvest Festival, Halloween and Bonfire night were the next 'noteable' events in the year

Don't you just hate this kind of over zealous commercialism! For those of us who are no longer spring chickens, our years are passing all to quickly as it is - we certainly don't want any reminders that help to speed them along more quickly. This kind of marketing just makes me want to dig my heels in and resist more strongly than ever.
Having said that, we recently had a holiday abroad and came across a Christmas shop which sold nothing but Christmas decorations and associated memorabilia all year round. I've never seen so many (unusual) Christmas tree decorations in my life and actually couldn't resist buying a few souvenirs. The holiday retail therapy spirit must have gone to my head!

Now Primrose don't be thinking you've had a holiday induced moment of madness because there's a world of difference between a shop that IS a Christmas shop and sells Christmas related items all year round and the rest of them that are simply cashing in on the idea of Christmas for commercial reasons only - urm that doesn't quite make sence because in both cases commercilaism is present but you know what I mean.
I love Christmas but hate the ever lengthening build up to it BUT were I to come across a shop wholly devoted to Christmas things 24/7 and 52 weeks of the year (give or take a few for hoildays ), I wouldn't be able to help myself. I would be in and spending within seconds, whatever the time of year, with peace of mind and childlike enjoyment of a shop that has no other pretentions than to be what it says - a Christmas shop.
However, if our garden centre decided to set up it's Christmas shop in August/September, I'd avoid it like the plague because that is pure commercialism and not what I expect to find in my local garden centre ever really, although they generally all seem to do the gift/Christmas thing these days, and certainly not before November at the earliest!

Please, don't.
I used to love Christmas, now it's spread over five months (And counting) I have got to hate it. Just a punctuation mark in the seasons for myself though for many the start of the precautionary-winter-lard-up.

How are you supposed to start and maintain a healthy lifestyle if it completely removes a wine lover’s reason to live?

When I was a child, Advent signalled the approach of Christmas and there was none of the hype which existed today, so you didn't have the chance to become bored stiff with the whole thing by the time it arrived.
But perhaps we partly have ourselves to blame. If we all boycotted commercial enterprises and refused to buy anything connected with Christmas until the start of December at the earliest, and all told the stores what we were doing, maybe the message might start to get through. The problem is that in difficult trading times, festive seasons are factored into the projected profits of businesses so they all try to jump in earlier than their competitors to gain a winning edge.

Christmas marketing campaigns are obviously devised by people who don't have small children living with them!

My Gran used to send her Christmas cards out the first week in November and everyone thought she was rather previous. I ignore it until the second week in December and it is much more enjoyable.

This over commercialisation of any event / holiday drives me crazy.
Every year is gets worse and worse, and it's even sadder to see non-commercial events get over-run.
Christmas is the big daddy of them all - every retailer and manufacturer pinning their year sales figures on the festive period - so you can imagine the thinking behind 'lets make the period as long as possible'
Can't really stop it, but there should be some control over advertising of it.
