Does anybody have a recipe for a Branston type pickle/chutney? The amount I get through is amazing! And like Marmite, it appears to be one of those products that is steadily creeping up in price.

Hi Essexboy, my partner likes branston pickle too, here is the recipe I used, see if it might be to your taste, at the time I didn't have apricots in the store cupboard so I used dates instead.

I used to enjoy Pan Yan pickle. Anybody remember it? Can't find it anywhere these days and can only assume has been discontinued. Seem to remember it had a slightly yellowish base. Anybody got a receipe which resembles it?

Primrose, I found this thread, no recipe but lots of reminiscences about the taste and suggestions for spices / ingredients used.

NB - thanks for that interesting thread. Next time I'm in M&S I'll get a jar of their pickle to try out, and I'll also have to contact Premier Foods (didn't know who the manufacturers of it were) to see if there are any plans to reintroduce it.
I've made home-made chutneys in the interim, but my OH doesn't eat them or pickles so there's little point in experimenting with making them. But if Pan Yan pickle could be re-introduced I'd be delighted as it was always one of my favourites.

I was just browsing around the internet on the topic of Pan Yan pickle and discovered that an almost identical tasting product can be found on the supermarket shelves but it is labelled BAXTERS "Albert's Victorian Chutney with citrus zest". I will probably have difficulty finding the website again, but for anybody who enjoyed Pan Yan, it's another lead to follow.
