Here's another tried and tested snack. Again, not for the weight concious.

Makes 12 pieces

250g plain flour
2 tsp baking powder
2 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp ground cinnamon
250g medium oatmeal
175g black treacle
125g butter
175g soft brown sugar
1 egg, beaten
150 ml milk

Method:

Grease and line a 9" square cake time with greaseproof paper.

Sieve the flour, baking powder, ginger and cinnamon into a large bowl and stir in the oatmeal.

Put the treacle, butter and sugar into a pan over a low heat and stir occasionally until the butter has just melted. DO NOT LET IT BOIL.

Make a well in the centre of the dry ingrediants and gradually stir in the the treacle mixture. Lightly beat the egg with the milk and add to the flour and treacle mixture. Beat well until the mixture is very smooth.

Pour into the prepared tin and place in a pre-heated oven at 180, 350 or gas 4 for approx 1 hour or until the mixture is firm to the touch and begins to come away from the lining of the tin.

Cool slightly in the tin before turning onto a wire rack to cool. Cut into 12 peices and store in an airtight container for a week so the pices go nice and sticky.
Lots of love
