Ingredients

500 ml pureed strawberries ( sieved if you don't like the seeds)
1 tin sweetened condensed milk plus double cream to make 500 ml
1 dessert sp. vanilla essence
Pinch salt

Chill ingredients in fridge before using
Mix together well
Churn in ice cream machine

This can use any type of fruit you have available and you can add whatever flavourings you like, eg chopped mint or lemon juice.
I litre is usually the capacity of an ice cream machine

I would love to make ice cream -........if only I could ever find any spare space in our freezer in which to store it, Still full of stuff including some of last year's crops !! We just don't seem to be able to eat some of them quickly enough !

I've got the same problem Primrose, I've been trying to use a lot of last year's veg up. I made a nice mixed veg pasta bake which used lots up this week and I'm using stewed fruits on my muesli every morning. I can always make a bit of space for strawberry ice cream though.

It is the first time I've used this recipe and my team of tasters have been trying it out. It is very versatile and easy to vary and this version suits me with 50% fruit.

That sounds like a great way of using up the strawberries, Plumpudding. I'm regretting ripping out nearly all my strawberry plants last year, now! I still have plenty rhubarb - do you think that would make a decent icecream, maybe?

My Dad had a similar recipe with evaporated milk instead of condensed, slightly lower sugar content, he also used to put a bit of gelatine in stop it setting rock hard.

I have surplus strawberries in the freezer but no ice cream making machine. (Kitchen cupboards full of other gear that only gets used occasionally but too useful to dispose of !!!). Would churning the mixture up in a food processor briefly work do you think?

Ooh - i have just found a big bag of raspberries in the freezer, just begging to be used. Guess what I am going to try making tomorrow :D

(I don't have an icecream maker either, Primrose, but will try part-freezing then whisking a few times. I think that is how you do it without a machine. Fingers crossed anyway!)

Put a Nana in a plastic bag and freeze for a couple of hours then eat, that's an easy ice cream(assuming you like Nana's).
