It might depend on your variety, but mine are producing the one, large main head now, but after cutting that will go on producing small heads / spears for some time, almost into autumn last year. The quality does drop off though, and the flavour gets gradually a bit more strident I think.

The best time to harvest Calabrese is one or two days before you actually do. I bet we all think the main head will get a bit bigger and usually eat it past its peak, much of the stuff I see in the supermarket is in the same state though!
