Really warm here today. I still have masses of green and 'turning' tomatoes on my outdoor plants. I'm tempted to pick them all this afternoon in case night time temperature start to plummet but my OH (non-gardening) OH keeps saying "Oh, leave them on for a few more days". My diary records tell me that I've never left picking later than the last week-end in September in the past. Any outdoor tomato growers out there in the South East? What are you doing.

Hi Primrose

I pulled mine last weekend but ran out of time and just threw
them onto my pile of stuff for burning. (They had blight) Today
when I went down there were red toms everywhere on the
pulled plants. If I had picked them last week I would have had
green ones ripening in the kitchen whereas today I have lovely
red toms immediately usable.

The weather for this week looks good. It is getting cooler overnight
but not frost and warms up very early in the day. If you are in
doubt do half & half but I would risk it for a biscuit until next weekend.

I've normally picked all mine by now, but due to blight. This year we avoided blight and are leaving ours for as long as possible. We aren't expected to get frost until mid-November here in Eastbourne.

A ground frost is possible in the West Midlands for Wednesday morning.

I've now erred on the side of caution and picked all of them yesterday except a few tiny ones which are too small to be worth bothering with. I now have five large trays of tomatoes basking in the sun inside the patio doors. (Gosh, those Ferlines were heavy croppers. I've already picked loads but until I laid them all out on the trays I didn't realise there were still so many remaining).
