I was wondering whether anybody snipped any of the leaves off their soft fruit bushes to expose the fruit to the sun and encourage it to ripen more quickly, as some people do with tomatoes.
If I just snipped some leaves off but left the stems of the bushes, would this inhibit cropping next year?

The reason why I'm asking is that my fruit bushes don't get a lot of sun and the fruit ripens very unevenly, which makes picking it rather a slow and time consuming process, with many clusters containing a mixture of ripe and unripe fruit.

Red currants are better for summer pruning. Trim new growth back to about 2 or 4 leaves. Exposing the fruit though does mean the birds will devour it if you don't cover with netting.
