I would like to pick some leaves of our kale Cavolo negro which we have grown for the first time this year but I don't know whether to pick some outside ones (which seem rather tough) or from the centre, but that would probably stop the plant from growing bigger. Any advice?

Pick the outside ones and the crown will keep growing (all the way till April usually) - good value isn't it?

Thanks, Giulia. We'll have some tomorrow. I am keen to know what it tastes like, because we have always grown curly kale and Ragged Jack kale and I really like those, so I am looking forward to comparing them with Cavolo Negro!

The outer leaves will be tough as old boots - I cut the central leaves and ,pre grow back like a cut and come again lettuce

Sorry that got a bit garbled, ignore the 'pre grow' bit and it sort of makes sense!
