After the issues with my leeks, I'm delighted that my parsnips (which germinated extraordinarily well) are looking great.

Looking good Stephen! Mine are pretty erratic, even some I tried in the potato sack things are forked, but have some good ones as well but yours look much bigger.

They do look good Stephen...I haven't got any this year, just down to not having the best of starts to the year...but next year!!!

They look pretty healthy and nice and straight too. Haven't dug any of mine up yet but now we've had the first frost which OH is so raving about .........!

Does leaving them in the ground for long periods increase the risk of canker ? I,ve normally always dug them up as needed rather than digging and storing yet rarely seem to have suffered this problem. Is it an infection which tends to remain dormant in the soil?

A couple have got pretty attached! I guess these might look better if I had done some thinning!

Pity it's past "wonky vegetable" time at the local show! They're pretty difficult to prepare when they come out like this but thankfully when roasted the taste is unimpaired.

Quite, once prepared the original shape is of no consequence. I think these are destined for soup... (parsnip, honey & ginger maybe)

PRanip soup of any variety is rather an acquired taste and that combination sounds rsther unusual. Curried parsnip or parsnip & Apple are the two I,ve tried in the past but my other half didn,t like either and really onky likes them ,slightly browned and crispy when roasted whixh does seem to bring out their sugar content.

Parsnip and apple soup - I like the sound of that.

Root veg roast at mine for crimbo - spuds separate obviously! I've got carrots in the spud bags as well & they are well happy & almost perfect. Not doing the J.O. idea of vinegar sprinkled on them either???

Hello. I was wondering how germinated parsnips are to be planted? Are the to have sprout towards sky or ground?
