It is traditional on our plot to have a large clear up and big bonfire on someone's plot, usually a plot which is changing hands. Tomorrow this plot will have 4-5 barrows of ash, he has a half plot. Can his plot become over potashed. Would it be a good idea to stack the ash and spread slowly over a couple of years, particularly when crops are coming to fruition....I dont want this poor enthusiastic chap to come unstuck when we have used his plot to have a good burn up and clear out.

Morning CoMpO, 4 to 5 barrows wouldn't hurt a full size plot if spread all over. But it is far better to collect it, keep it dry and use it,as you say at the right time.

The trouble is if you spread it now, most of it will wash through the soil.
Kind Regards, Old Herbaceous.

You are probably already aware, but just in case, avoid burning anything painted, plastic or old carpet as these can contain nasty toxins- dioxins lead etc.
Sit down before a fact as a little child, be prepared to give up every preconcieved notion, follow humbly wherever and to whatever abyss nature leads, or you shall learn nothing.
