How are you on hybridisation theory Johnboy? This follows on from the garlic thread. Ive managed to get some (6) onions of a particularly attractive (in my opinion) strain. The seed of which is not readily available (if at all) to the general public. It is open pollinated, so I've potted them up and will be growing them on in the hope of getting my own stock of seed for future use. Now as i lie awake at night righting the world and dreaming of the perfect onion I'm wondering about a hybrid experiment with a couple of the bulbs crossed with another open pollinated strain i have. finally the question. will i have to remove all the anthers from the recieving plant? (theres a hell of a lot on an onion seed head)...rgds..paul....p.s. its got to be a yes hasnt it? so will these be f.i or f.2 hybrids? I dont get the bit about "back crossing with the parent" for true f.1.hoping you can help...paul.
