I noticed you had harvested some skirret, and I believe it has an 8 month growing season, will it overwinter with cloche protection ? I have some seed. As I haven't grown it before any tips would be appreciated Is it subject to any pests?
Sit down before a fact as a little child, be prepared to give up every preconcieved notion, follow humbly wherever and to whatever abyss nature leads, or you shall learn nothing.

Hi NB,
I think I should have left it alone this year. The roots tasted nice and sweet but they were stringy and needed cooking. I am no authority and I have no idea about overwintering, but I am just leaving mine in situ and will see if next year there is [a] any crop and [b] any improvement in the thickness of the roots.

When I dug the plants up, at least one had very small shoots beginning to grow, rather in the manner of herbaceous perennials. So I am just going to treat the plants I have as if they are just that.

I failed to keep the area free of weeds, and so I think they were competing for resources. I'll try to make more time next year.

Good luck with your efforts
mike
