colarado beetle

Hi All, I am a new member, and new to growing veggies, and new in the south west of France. I would like to grow potatoes, but have been told, that the reason, they do not have nice potatos in France, is due to the dreaded colorado beetle. I do know a long time ago, we had to keep very vigilant in England to make sure that it did not get into crops, but dont know anything about colorado beetle. Does anyone know if I can safely grow potatoes in polypots, and if so where can I buy them, and how do I find and cope with colorado beetle. Thanks in advance.
