Been thanked: 2 times

As part of a veg garden reorganisation I plan to move my runner bean trench. Can anyone please advise on whether beans need lots of sun, or are they OK in a shady spot? My bean supports are canes which are fixed up on both sides of a horizontal plank, supported by a post at each end.
Thanks

a sunny spot will enhance the nectar flow in the flowers thus encouraging insects to pollinate the flowers to set beans

Hi John,
Beans do like a sunny position and if you can grow them in a row north to south the row will get morning to noon sun on one side and noon to evening sun on the other. I cannot quite make that position but am about NNE to SSW and the growth and cropping on both sides of the row are fairly even but I have a mate who can only grow his East to West and the East side is for sure less productive and very markedly so.
JB.
