That's an interesting read Geoff. It does cause you to wonder about what works in nature and what doesn't, and why.

I imagine because of biological incompatibility it would be impossible to graft a plum onto an apple or any other fruit stock in the same way that it would prove impossible for a human being to mate with another primate species. Nature obviously has its own inherent protections against genetic variations of the various species. One wonders if eventually the scientists will achieve the impossible but whether that would be a wise experiment is another matter.

Meanwhile my now solitary daphne bush will have to take its chance with more ordinary cuttings !
