Hi,

Here's a couple of my chilli 'chanzo'. These are kept in the windowsill - same conditions. The one on the left is pinched, the one on the right isn't. The one that's pinched is much bushier, but the one which isn't has more fruit earlier. Will be interesting to see what the final weigh in is!

I have a small plastic green house for the chilli & pepper plants.

Some days it gets a lot of condensation on the inside walls so I open the flap.

Is this good practice or should I leave the flap closed?

Colin, I'd continue to open the flap and let some fresh air in. Too much condensation and lack of ventilation could cause mould to start forming on the compost surface in the pots even though they like a warm environment. Having said that on very hot days I do spray their leaves with a fine mist which they seem to appreciate.

My first year growing chillies, seem to be getting away with it so far, with fruit forming, had problems getting them to germinate in a heated propagator inside a double glazed conservatory. I will have to master this pre soaking malarkey and try again.

I see you are sharing your peppers with something. I posted in July 2013 about little snails I was being plagued with and I still get them; killed over 20 today many on the peppers, then nobody seemed to know anything about them, is that still the case?

This one is about ¾" (18mm) long, which is nearly the biggest I've found. I don't know if they are an immature version of a normal snail but they look more like the sort I find in the pond. I like the clear bit at the front of the shell, presumably to see out before sticking head out.

I haven't actually found anything on the leaves, I've got some little caterpillars on the lettuce on the other side of the greenhouse, they will be going tout suite.

I have never seen a snail like that, Geoff. Maybe you introduced it with a plant from somewhere and it has multiplied, obviously enjoying the greenhouse conditions? Have you tried to identify it via Google? There is also www.conchsoc.org who might be able to help.

During the week I found this sweet pepper forming but the plant itself is really small unlike any I have grown before, maybe a foot max. I must check the label. He's sharing the pot with an aubergine which is also tiny. I replaced 1/2 the compost in the pot before planting & am feeding them but not making any impact on the size of the plant but they must be happy as flowering & fruiting! Weird, any suggestions welcomed but neither will be able to support multiple fruit unless they take off.

I've never had those snails but think your Nature Spot I. D. is right. It seems they are quite widespread in damp places.

Interesting comments about freezing peppers & chillies.

When I have frozen peppers form supermarket and thawed them out they seem to go limp and loose their crunchiness, never frozen chillies yet.
Is there something I should be doing to get over this?

Hi,

Mr Pawty and I had a bit of a debate ........ once chillies have turned red on a plant, do they continue to get hotter?

Mine are turning red, so do I harvest to encourage more growth, or leave them on the plant to get hotter?

Thanks

Pawty
