Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum. Just in the process of buying my first house with my partner and we'll have a garden so my dream of having a veggie patch can come true!

Has anyone got any 'got to know' advice, especially a 'when to sow' timetable for all the different varieties out there?

You may need to adjust things by a week or so each way depending on your location, things in the south can be a few weeks earlier compared to the north.

You'll find a useful planting calender in a recent edition of KG. I'll look up which one later for you.

I can't wait until I move in, just hope I'll be able to get my garden sorted quickly so I can get out in the sunny spells

Hi Catbud and welcome,

Depending on where you are now and how long till you move you might like to start a few things off on a sunny windowsill in a cheap propogator. Dosnt have to be heated or anything the sun will do that, so that you have a head start when you move in.

Like CatBud I was unable to view yesterday and have just had a very brief look at the site now and I agree that it will be ideal. I shall return and view in greater depth at a later time.
Modern Gardeners are exceedingly fortunate as when I started gardening the country was involved with WW2 and apart for the 'Dig for Victory' campaign a little later there was very little one could find out! Now look at it! Wonderful how could anybody fail?

Just a small word of caution. Conditions that are suitable for sowing vary across the country and from year to year. For example, here in Northants the daffodils are only just out, due to the cold spring. Similarly, the reliably frost free date for planting out tender plants will be three weeks later up north compared to down south. Experienced gardeners in your local area will always be the best source of advice on sowing/planting times.
